496468 2006-11-05 00:22:00 I'm looking at the Ace Aspire T180 computer but it hasn't got Microsoft Word but only Microsoft Works on it and there is no spell check in Outlook Express. Does anybody know how to be able to add this? It looks like all new computers come without it.
Appreciate your reply.

496471 2006-11-05 07:20:00 Try searching F1 as there was an old thread on this subject. Also try
www.tech-pro.net However Tech-pro's solution did not work for me. Try installing older version of works such as v4.5. In my opinion that is still the best iteration of works.

By the way, don't use MS Works unless you never want to share your files with anyone else or use them on another computer. Not many people have / use MS Works.

Instead, download Open Office Org. This is a free download (and often on PC World magazine CDs, DVDs). It is very similar to MS Word and compatible with it.

A free program, made to allow people to use Spell Checker in Outlook Express. This is a stand alone application, that incorporates in Outlook Express.

The purpose of this program, is to supply for free the ability to use Spelling in OE, without the need to purchase other software, such as MS Word,Works, or Office.

Appreciate your reply. You might want to double check that the version of MS Works doesn't actually come with Word. I think one of the Works packages includes Word with it.

Steve is quite correct - but the advice for most people is lousy . Providing you are not sharing then MSWorks is far superior - particularly the older versions . If possible before year 2000 - I have the latest version but was glad to go back to the old one . One of my favourite occupations is showing demonstrators in computer shops how I can write, particularly databases in MSWorks in a fraction of the time they would take with Office . However having said that, WORD is essential for many applications . My half way finished top selling novel is obviously writtten in WORD . But all my letters, spreadsheets and databases are MSWorks .
And I also have found that MSWorks is much better if you may be using other computers - particularly those owned by the ordinary person .
