| 496745 | 2006-11-06 02:27:00 | we switched to woosh about 6 months ago and have found the broadband to be OK, but have had alot of problems with the phone line: -the line frequently drops out in the middle of calls -sometimes every number you dial gives the engauged signal (even when trying to dial my own cell, which I know is working perfectly fine, and not in-use) -others are frequently unable to phone into our number - getting a message that the phone is currently un-available. Has anyone else had these problems? After phoning the help desk, I was told that it was becuase our signal strength was too weak, however when I disconnected the modem from the phone gateway and tested the strength by connecting straight to my PC it was only one bar away from the top - I tested it everywhere else in the house and that was the best I could get. Just wondering if this is typical of woosh or if we may just be in a bad area? Thanks. |

| 496746 | 2006-11-06 07:43:00 | Its typical of Woosh. Its their standard answer. Everyone on Woosh apparently has low signal strength. I thinks its like Skys "Rain Fade" message you get when their tech trips over the cable. |

| 496748 | 2006-11-07 01:43:00 | we haven't got he phone side of woosh but we have the broadband because telecom wont enable ADSL in our exchange - we get max signal strength as we live 2km away from the nearest tower - yet we never get anywhere close to the "1.6mbps max" speed - instead we get about 64-256kbps connection - we ring woosh and we get the usual "weak signal" excuse but the tech i talked to had not much to say after i told him what signal we really get - so yeah in answer to your first question - its just typical woosh at work :annoyed: | MAC_H8ER (5897) | ||
| 496749 | 2007-10-25 10:10:00 | have had similar issues, initially signal was weak and effected all services, but changed the equipment (which has fixed the broardband) but now the phone line has caused major problems. woosh help desk are useful saying it is signal related, but we have full signal, huh? people are unable to get through when calling, the quality of phone line is shocking when you can actually call someone and we cant retreive any messages as an automated voice says she cant "hear" our pin number. woosh has been great in a broadband sense, but if you are thinking of getting a phone line, dont bother its not worth the hassle and noone at woosh seem to be able to help | aliciaforrer (11397) | ||
| 496750 | 2007-10-25 19:20:00 | Mac_H8r, Most of the time its not *just* your connection, but the speed / details of the source you're downloading from. Right now, I try and download from my server in the states and Im getting approx 80KB/s. Pathetic. Other times Ive had myself and a few mates in NZ / Aus all downloading from it, combined all 6 of us were downloading concurrently from it at around 30m/bits... polc, have you tried moving it all around and stuff, tried it from a different window? Tried from higher up? Im presuming you've got the booster antenna? |

I seem to remember some time ago you taking the side of Woosh and going on about how marvellous yours was when I posted about the incredibly crap product and incredibly crap customer service. As I said then, I found that quite normal for all the Woosh installs I have done in various Southland areas. Come to think of it, in a few Auckland areas too. I have to say I completely loathe and detest that b**** Margaret Sutherland thats in charge of Woosh down here. She couldn't give a flying f***. She made that very clear. |

| 496752 | 2007-10-25 20:53:00 | yes i also remember that but it seems things have slid quite a bit down hill lately. signal is still fine (bit crappy in poor weather but thats to be expected) as for using better sources for faster speeds this has been true on occasion - i downloaded that new jherico Game Demo and it was plodding along at an ok 55kb\s with a download manager using 4 download threads - if i were to use IE's or Firefox's Download mangers i would not have even got 10kb\ps so i was happy with that - it blew my cap that month so i had to deal with deliberately slow internet for the other half of the month :( last week all my mates were screaming about the new beta UT3 demo and insisted i get it too - they gave me a link to a gameplanet.nz source and said they were all getting 800kb\s download speeds or higher - so i thought ok ill grab it too - with the downland manger using on or 4 download threads i never got above 50kb\s download speed - i thought it might be congestion so i tried again at 11pm - still the same - so i left it overnight - i woke up to find it done but it never got over 50kb\s speeds - and the file was corrupt - so along with the fact i had blown my cap again i had nothing to show for it :( at the moment Woosh is tolerable - not great but ok - and since telecom have made it clear that they will not be doing anything about rural broadband we will have to stick with what we have :o |

You want to come into the shop and I'll download stuff here. Downloaded Hellgates demo the other day, it slowed down to 302kbps. Don't have a data cap either............ Did you go to the meeting in Wyndham? I left after the Vodafone twit started his spiel. I heard later what the rest said. I did warn Roseanne they wouldn't care............. I've got on order: HL2 Orange Box FEAR Perseus Mandate Crysis. Yay!!!! |
