497147 2006-11-07 06:16:00 I'll get the manual and have a look at what the settings are / or should be.

The manual if u havent got it is here (www.msi.com.tw)

497148 2006-11-07 06:57:00 Why did you flash the bios? Metla (12)
497149 2006-11-07 19:17:00 I flashed the bios because when building the computer up I wanted to use some SCSI drives I had been given and needed to access the bios. It was password protected and no one could tell me what it was. I tried all the factory backdoor codes but nothing worked so I had to pull the battery and reset everything. Once all was working again, the cpu speed was as it is now (half speed) and I noticed the bios was an older version. I thought the latest might fix the problem hence the flash. Davier (11406)
497150 2006-11-07 19:58:00 After you pulled the battery, did u reconfigure the BIOS?

By the sounds of it, u didnt, which is why things (ie The speed) is only 1/2 of what it should be.

Not too sure if putting in DDR 400 would have helped things, but it may have "changed it to 266 speed" since I dont think this mobo supports DDR 400.

Only 200 and 266 mhz ram. If it didnt like DDR 400 ram, I would say you'll have another prob. The system most probably wouldnt boot / run at all.

The manual doesnt look helpful at all!

It doesnt show u all the options under the different settings, and it doesnt tell u what the default settings are / or should be.

If u can, I would go into the BIOS (if u havent reconfigured the settings), select load optimized defaults. Then click on PnP, and change it to yes, where it says plug and play (if u use XP), change the bootdisk to the hdd (it maybe on cd or floppy), then click on frequency / voltage control, put it on 133 if u can. Where it says CPU clock.

As stated in the manual

If CPU Clock = 133MHz
Core/Bus ratio = 23
then CPU core speed = Host Clock x Core/Bus ratio
= 133MHz x 23
= 3.06 GHz

So, see if the CPU clock ratio option under frequency / voltage control can be changed to 23. Since you have a 3.06 ghz CPU.

Then see if things run a bit faster. If this doesnt work (The system starts to become unstable, it'll be the CPU / CPU clock ratio settings that are wrong, but then thats what the ratio should be set at (23) according to the manual, if u have a 3.06 ghz CPU).

497151 2006-11-07 20:21:00 Also what speed is it showing now on the post screen??

It should show the speed the CPU is currently running at, if it isnt 3.06.

Hopefully, you're also running a 533 FSB CPU, not an 800 FSB CPU??

As I dont think this mobo supports 800 FSB CPU's either.

I would also make sure the options for LAN, USB, and sound, in the BIOS are on enabled, if u want to use them.
