2006-11-07 00:08:00 | Just talked to XTRA (both sales dept & tech support) RE the 200MB limit, and this is what I was told: 1. While the Fair Use Policy (jetstream.xtra.co.nz) has not yet been updated, it should have been - and this limit DOES apply to the xtra go large plan. 2. This 200MB per hour max limit only applies during peak hours, offpeak is not affected. 3. If you exceed this limit you are charged $0.02 per additional MB! Having a 200MB hourly cap is bad enough, but charging extra for an 'unlimited' plan? Someone please call the commerce commission... Unless of course both people I talked to had their facts wrong.

We get 700MB during peak and now 200MB per hour during peak o.O Also it states the FUP is in use when there is congestion in the network or peak times. So we could be downloading over our limits when we don't even know it. |

2006-11-07 00:20:00 | I have decided to upgrade to Go Pro fro Go Large, to see if there is an improvement. It was really slow. BTW: 200MB/hour = 445kbps or 55KB/s.

2006-11-07 00:35:00 | This extra limit is interesting. I dont know if they can do that when in effect they are limiting BB speed. That TG better be careful, she is walking a tightrope with regards to the state of the Telecom infer-structure. False advertising could bring her to her knees!

2006-11-07 01:07:00 | I'm afraid your maths is wrong. You're confusing bytes and bits. Bytes in 200MB = 1024 * 1024 * 200 = 209715200 Rate in bytes per second = 209715200 / 60 / 60 = 58254 Rate in Kilobits per second = 58254 * 8 = 466032 Kbps Incidentally, if there are limits like this in place then you could argue that Xtra is guilty of false advertising. You'd have a hard job complaining about a limit during peak hours but an explicit limit per hour is a completely different kettle of fish. I was using rounded figures. KiwiTT_NZ has exactly what I said, quick figures. I have not got anything wrong

2006-11-07 01:45:00 | I guess the reasoning is to stop the pirates hogging bandwidth - downloading entire movies and games and stuff. But 200mb??!!! Even 700MB is bad enough. I have a number of game demos currently sitting on my hard drive that exceed that. The spore demo for instance. And there were a few others I have since deleted after getting the full game. Rather sad - one game demo and you are stuffed into the category of a leech. Slow and limited. No wonder my friend doesn't want to swap from dialup. Why bother?
