496817 2006-11-06 08:53:00 I've recently started using Hide I.P platinum on both of my 'puters.
They are behind an ADSL Modem/Router.
How can I confirm I'm behind an anonymous I.P? Or is this impossible?

496818 2006-11-06 09:17:00 Maybe you can try www.mywanip.com.
If your program works by using proxy servers, you should see the server's IP address instead of yours on the webpage.

496819 2006-11-06 09:30:00 It's my understanding that your IP numbers are automatically hidden when you are behind a ADSL router/modem since it uses NAT - Network Address Translation meaning that the only IP number visible to the outside world is the one on the internet side of the router. johnd (85)

496821 2006-11-06 11:22:00 It looks like Hide IP only uses a proxy server. This is better than nothing but it doesn't do much. To really get a decent level of stealth you need something like tor (http://tor.eff.org/) and a utility in your browser to hide personal information (e.g. Firefox with Stealther extension). I have both of these, although I rarely have occasion to use them.

Tor is much better than a proxy server because all connections are encrypted, no one of the three nodes in a circuit knows both the origin and destination of a connection, and the pathway taken (the 'circuit') changes every minute or so. It's still vulnerable to certain timing attacks unless you run a node yourself but is much more effective than anything else.
