2006-11-05 23:28:00 | when u install windows xp pro from scratch, does it default to installing an ntfs file system or fat32? | lance4k (4644) | |
2006-11-05 23:43:00 | It seems to me in the last re-install I did, I had the choice in one of the early setup windows, and merely clicked what I wanted...this is XP-Pro though...might not be the same in Home. In any case, you can always convert to NTFS from Fat-xx whenever you want to later. It is allowed...but not vice-versa. This is the way to change it: support.microsoft.com

2006-11-05 23:45:00 | It gives you the option when you create the partition on the HDD. But, if the partition is bigger than 32GB, then it will only give you NTFS as an option.

2006-11-05 23:48:00 | oh ok then. well any new pc comes with at least 40gb so then it should always make the file system ntfs then. | lance4k (4644) | |
2006-11-06 00:16:00 | While XPs HDD setup dictates you must use NTFS on a partition larger than 32Gb, that doesn't mean you have to. You can partition the drive first in Fat32 then install Windows. | pctek (84) | |
