496571 2006-11-05 07:34:00 I have a torrent downloading at 3 . 6kB/s and uploading at 5 . 3kB/s .

I have tried 3 speedtests as follows at the same time that the torrent was downloading:

NZDSL = 242kbps download and 36kbps upload
whatsmyspeed . org 46 . 2 kbps (between a 33k and 56k dial up modem)
verizon 88 . 9kBits (just better than a 56k dial up modem) .

This does not appear to change much regardless of the time of day .

What sickens me most is that I was on the old PLUS plan with a 2MB download and 192 upload . This was always constant and somewhat adequate .

This Go Large Plan was forced on me and Xtra refuse to negotiate any other possible solution apart from me paying more money . Needless to say my broadband connection is now hopeless . A call to complain was met with it is my line distance from the exchange . I guess I am left to assume that the exchange was moved further away from my house at that very same moment I was forced onto this dreadful plan! I have checked my letterbox daily just to confirm that I am in the same house and using the very same computer with the same modem .

Am I correct in also assuming that "traffic shaping" is designed to knock out the rest of your internet usage? Afterall, about 20% of my web browsing is now timing out regardless of the time of day if I have a torrent struggling down this very narrow pipeline that I find myself stuck in .

The only thing that has changed is that Telecom have changed my plan and effectively leashed me to what is effectively dial up speed . What am I missing here?

496573 2006-11-05 07:55:00 so its next week now? hopefully it'll be sorted out.

What I dont get is how telecom is giving priority to the people that just want to browse the net and send emails, as telecom says they are their 'majority' customers.

Why the hell do those people need to be going at 3.5mbit~7.6mbit.

Why not traffic shape them and give the bandwidth to us people who want to use the internet like it should be in the year 2006.

496580 2006-11-05 08:37:00 Since friday night i have had a constant speed of 3.5mbps which is better than what i used to get which was 1.5mbps. I rung telecom on friday and they said that the telecom engineers are launching a new system this week to keep the speed more consistant rather than at random.Maybe they have kicked it in early because all day yesterday and today my speed hasnt dropped once below 3.5mbps. I know some of you will reply and say (yer telecom will have a consistant speed of EG, 150kbps instead of 5mbps or what ever) but i suppose its a start to maybe something better for us all who knows.
