1408567 2015-09-20 00:51:00 I have a fairly old PC, about 4 yrs old. It is an AMD Athlon II X2 3.0 Ghz with 3Gb RAM.

It came with Win 7 and since it crashed I was going to load Win 7 again on it but I wanted to know if I chuck Windows 10 on this machine,
will the PC be any "faster" or perform better then having Win 7 on it ?

I am just trying to prolong the life of machine just a little bit more so i can put either of the 2 OS depending on which one runs faster.

Cheers

1408568 2015-09-20 01:18:00 Windows 10 has a better ability to handle and adjust to lower Spec PC's than W7

I got a old celeron 2.1 with 4GB memory running W10. While its no speed demon, it works quite well. You just have to remember they are not going to be gaming PC's or multi task as well. But for general web browsing, emails etc its fine. I actually take it to customers places to setup and test networks. It actually works better than most of my customers PC's that are more powerful. BUT I know its limitations.

Also got a old desktop PC that used for the insider Builds, cant remember the CPU size, but its only got 2GB memory. Again not high spec, cant multi task much but it does whats its capable of.

1408569 2015-09-20 01:25:00 My computer has a 3.2GHz Athlon II X2 CPU with 4GB of RAM running W7 at present. Will upgrade to W10 when able. Don't see any need to replace it any time soon as it copes very well with everything I use it for. No gaming.
The HDD failed a couple of years ago, so upgraded to a 120GB SSD. What a difference that made. I would suggest that you instal a SSD.

I also have an old HP NX6320 laptop that I upgraded to W10. It has a 1.66GHz dual core Celeron and 2GB of RAM, so not high performance.
Took a couple of hours to upgrade. No issues with upgrade. Runs fine, but slower to boot than it was on W7. Has quite a bit more spare disk space. W10 also split the drive into two partitions.

1408570 2015-09-20 03:32:00 Windows 10 is faster than W7, boots quicker and is smaller. Example: Backup image for W7 with software 9GB. W10 (clean install) with same software & same backup app 7GB.
Internet speed has gone up from average 14Mbps to 18Mbps with no tweaking. No driver issues, and only one compatibility issue which I set to XP Sp3 & was Ok.
Word of warning: The new Defender is very lively so if you have any questionable files park them somewhere else.
