1408520 2015-09-19 01:03:00 I'm configuring my new Windows 10 computer and I want to replace Notepad and Windows Media Player with better apps. I've been trying GIMP and Notepad++ but I can't figure out how to get GIMP to save images to JPEG format and Notepad++ opens my Wordpad files with all the ASCI coding present. If I can configure these to do what I want but don't know how advice would be appreciated. If I can't I'd appreciate recommendations on other apps. Thanks. BrotherDragon (10117)
1408521 2015-09-19 01:21:00 I use NoteTab Light and VLC instead of Notepad and Windows Media Player. Terry Porritt (14)

That is probably because Notepad++ is for writing code rather than creating or editing images.

VLC makes for a great media player. It will play any audio codec.
As for saving images in GIMP docs.gimp.org

1408523 2015-09-19 01:32:00 Notepad++ is a text editor, not a word processor as WordPad is. Notepad++ does not interpret the file for formatting at all (besides syntax highlighting). pcuser42 (130)

1408526 2015-09-19 03:35:00 To save a jpg image after manipulation with 'The Gimp' the file needs to be 'exported'. PeterE (6851)

Did you give WMP a good test? I think it's a new version on W10

After upgrading Mrs Micro's 11" Pavilion 2-in-1 to W10 I decided to test its video playing ability with the most demanding video file I could lay my hands on. 4k @ 100 Mbits/s on an SDXC card. It played perfectly. (For comparison, Adobe Premiere CS6 defaults to 5 Mbit/s when encoding full HD for tablets. So 100 Mbit/s is 20x more demanding.)

I also pulled HD from a WD TV Live media player over Wifi and simultaneous relayed the 2-in-1's screen to the TV, also over Wifi. It worked so well I fell into thinking the TV was playing directly from the media player

I suppose some of this good performance is due to the Pavilion's hardware (even though it was under $600) but I also wonder if WMP has been made more efficient

(I like MPC-Classic the best on my W7pro64 desktop but it often stops working)
