1399650 2015-04-30 02:16:00 From memory although they are interest free, its only in name as they simply call it something else and charge it differently gary67 (56)
1399651 2015-04-30 02:26:00 The less NZ residents have to deal with "Sharia regulations" the better is will be for the country as a whole in the long run. We don't need a 'thin end of the wedge'.... johcar (6283)
1399652 2015-04-30 02:43:00 Much ado about nothing. No bank is offering this service and if they do you can bet it will cost at least as much as an interest bearing loan but will use some accounting trickery to call it something else.
If anything It'll end up costing them more to observe their religion.

You're probably right - there aren't too many banks in NZ that would want to take a punt on the cost of their money over 25-30 years, adding this to the principal and calculating repayments at 0% based on the total figure....

But the least acceptance of Sharia in this country the better - if it becomes 'OK' to follow this Sharia rule, then maybe others will gradually be accepted.

This is a BAD idea.

It's the old put-a-frog-in-a-pot-of-cold-water-and-turn-on-the-heat scenario. He doesn't notice he's cooked until it's too late!

Yeah, right - that'll work!

And replace it with what, exactly?

1399656 2015-04-30 02:58:00 I looked it up ages ago...always wondered how they borrowed money without lenders making something.

Apparently the "interest" works out about the same generally....
Whatever works....

FTFY

They're talking about a "Clayton's Loan"...
