| 1399338 | 2015-04-27 01:47:00 | I have yet to find a GPS able to pronounce Maori words with any sort of accuracy. Sometimes you are left guessing just what has been said. My Navman has trouble with English words. |

| 1399341 | 2015-04-27 04:50:00 | I'm now thinking maybe a Garmin Nuvi 55LM www.harveynorman.co.nz Looks good, but a 5" screen? I don't know how old you are, but if your eyesight is anything like mine this may be too small. I gave up on the suction windscreen mount and made my own dash mount to bring the machine closer towards me, and that's with a 6" screen. Now I can read the screen easily. Remember the built in units are about 8" across. Just bear this in mind when you are looking in the shop. Hold the unit at about windscreen distance away from you. |

But we found the current 5'' Uniden quite adequate, when you could see it, usually at night or dull days. Also a 5'' will fit into an existing recess as long as the power cord is at the back. Power supply is right there too. Prefer not to have it above the dash. Most mobile phones used would be around that size too. |

I would look at other brands when I replace it Some brands now offer free map updates for life, thats something to consider. issues: (with my tom tom) you cant leave it stuck to the windscreen: being black it gets too hot in the sun, overheats then stops charging as its too hot. :illogical If unused/unplugged for say a week, it doesnt want to turn back on, takes many many attempts . Also , on button is really well hidden. Cant use abbreviations when searching for street names, ie cant use Ave, Pl, St(for saint..) have to push OK 4 or 5x , when a single OK should suffice (really poor menu design) If a street is just out of Ak , you have to know exactly what suburb/district it thinks that street is in or you cant search for it in the menu. Some streets, like Great Sth Rd confuse it , as it cant cope with street numbers being out of order on that st good points... Mine is the Top Gear edition. Having Jeremy Clarkson give directions is funny . 5" is easily big enough, you dont drive staring at the thing , you follow its audio prompting which generally works really well. Its auto dimming at night. Its a godsend, when looking for St numbers in the dark . Try doing that with a map, shining a torch on every letterbox to try & read the numbers. Its a godsend when looking for a business address, on a road where most st numbers are not displayed and the business name isnt displayed or not visable while driving. It stops alot of stress when driving in unfamiliar areas looking for a st & address  I would say, if you cant read a 5" GPS, you wont pass the eyesight test when you renew your driving lic anyway. |

| 1399345 | 2015-04-27 23:26:00 | A mate bought a really cheap & nasty car GPS off trademe. It was just an underpowered 5" Android with some Russian interface. Pretty much worthless. :-) |

| 1399347 | 2015-04-28 03:57:00 | I use my phone also, but I have used both a navman and a tomtom and both did a perfectly good job. Plenty of models come with free updates for a year or even lifetime as well. One feature I did like that a smartphone doesn't seem to have is the speed limit indicator the tomtom had. A smartphone is a good option though as it can cost a similar amount, has free updates, and can be used as a phone. Also the Navfree app is pretty good if you don't want to use data as it downloads the maps onto the phone, great if you drive out of cellphone coverage also. I prefer google maps but I keep navfree as a backup. The Waze app has turn-by-turn navigation and the option to display speed... |
