| 1399545 | 2015-04-29 00:48:00 | Muslims have to pray something like 5 times a day and at certain times. Yep I see that. Just as Christians have to go to church on Sundays, so how could they ever be employed at a job requiring occasional weekend work ? or any job requiring someone to be available on call ? I jest not, this has come up in employment disputes. Females might take a year off to have a kid , how does that fit into the discussion . I used to work with a Muslim. He never stopped for prayers during the day. He sometimes ate snacks during ramadan. He occasionly had a glass of booze. But I guess the issue of breaks should be clearly defined in the Employment contract . If everyone knows & agrees whats required from employee & employer, then there wont be an issue . |

That leaves 3, which fit in with the 3 breaks per day. Who still get 3 official breaks per day anyway, just lunchbreak & sometimes have to work through that as well. Ive worked at a business where stopping for 1/2 hour lunch break was frowned upon, even though we were 'allowed' an hour for lunch. |

This is how I see it and the basis of my arguement, you are there to work and work comes first. But the other side is being argued that regardless of the work, no matter how time-critical you have to give them prayer breaks, you can deny smoke breaks and strongly urge people to take toilet breaks at other times but the arguement is you cannot deny religious breaks |

First time I encountered it I thought Holy S..t, do they know something I don’t. 6429 Brisbane Airport. Who said the Aussies weren't Culturally Sensitive. :D |

Unless of course your Christian then you have to do what the rules are that country regardless. (I'm not a believer by the way) but that is how the world seems to operate. | gary67 (56) | ||
