1399328 2015-04-25 23:55:00 I have yet to find a GPS able to pronounce Maori words with any sort of accuracy. Sometimes you are left guessing just what has been said. Richard (739)

Same here. Having one that is quick and easy to type in where you are wanting to navigate to would be on my list of must haves. Having to move through 3 or 4 screens to complete this process is annoying, although I would imagine is it fairly standard with most GPS brands.

Having up to date maps is also important.

1399331 2015-04-26 06:16:00 I don't have a GPS in my car. I don't understand what's wrong with a good old fashioned map.

With most of the driving around Auckland I don't need a map, and driving outside Auckland is easy - and I do use a map - as all the highways are numbered. What could be easier?

If it's just you in the car then turn by turn navigation is much easier. If you are using a traditional map you have to keep looking at it to make sure you are going the right way where as with turn by turn the audio tells you that you need to make a right hand turn in 50 meters.

That's why so many people use GPS devices. Obviously you don't need to use one of you are in familiar territory or are driving to work every day.

1399335 2015-04-26 12:22:00 A GPS
+1 :)

I never had one or wanted one, then I got a smartphone and started using it to navigate. Totally converted. It is so much easier, especially doing things like finding a street address you've never been to.

1399336 2015-04-26 23:17:00 I remember back in the 70's arriving in Auckland for the first time.
Had an address to go to.
Bought a street map from a service station.
When I opened it up it nearly filled the car.

1399337 2015-04-27 00:34:00 Can anyone recomend a good reasonably priced GPS/SatNav unit currently available in this country.
I have started looking but but there are so many.
I am assuming the cheaper ones are good until they are out of date, then you replace them.
While the dearer ones can be updated.
Don't need bluetooth or wifi.I have a cheap Garmin which does all I want. I also update weekly through the "NZ open gps project"
