I did have a read of the article and am not sure whether I am surprised or impressed by the accounting methods used by Microsoft to record the revenue from previous versions of Windows. But I guess that is why they pay the accountants the big bucks :) |

Apple shill :( My opinion has nothing to do with being an Apple shill, I'm just looking at what Microsoft's competition are doing and saying that if MS wants to compete then they need to give their OS away for free or at least for less than $10. If a consumer wants choice when they buy their next PC or upgrade their existing one then there are 3 alternative choices to pick from, all of which are free. |

If you want your computer to cost $1400 or less - given the entry level 11 inch Macbook Air costs $1399 - you can only choose Windows. Microsoft is giving Windows 10 as a free upgrade to try to get Windows 7 users to upgrade - not because if they don't everyone will buy a Mac. OSX is a nice enough OS from the little I've used of it, but when the entry level laptop costs $1400, it's not really competition. |

IOS?) - any of those would work depending on the situation. Baring in mind that I am talking about every day use and not server admin type computing. I agree with your point about sub $1400 computers with Windows being about the only option unless you want a Chrome book which from what I have seen are pretty good. If you are willing or able to go for the $1400+ market, as a lot of C level execs or software devs may be able to, then your options are better :) As to getting Windows users to upgrade, I would say it it would be Microsoft's PR dream to get users to ditch their MacBook Airs and purchase a new PC :) |
