1399525 2015-04-28 10:47:00 WTF does it mean? :(

Once again tonight on the 6pm TVOne news, Dallow uttered another one of his pearls.

Does anybody know what the hell "across developments" means?

Where is this new bastardised English coming from?

1399528 2015-04-29 04:02:00 Would need the whole sentence to attempt understanding. Two isolated words means very little. Didn't watch it myself to have caught it live. dugimodo (138)

To help you out on this one, context would be nice.

1399530 2015-04-29 05:40:00 Well it obviously means they're monitoring the situation and what's happening about whatever the story was about.

Doesn't change the fact that it's a pretty terrible expression, just like all the live crosses, but it is pretty simple to understand.

1399531 2015-04-29 08:37:00 It was used in relation to another reporter who would be covering the story later. Zippity (58)
1399532 2015-04-29 09:08:00 Were they designing a crossword? ;) R2x1 (4628)
1399533 2015-04-29 11:03:00 In that case it means 2 sides reaching a middle, because its still developing and each have their own story but both have not got the picture yet.

Well I assume that's what it is as I've seen it used in situations where there's conflict, especially with domain names removing 2nd level domains. E.g if someone had domain.co.nz and another had domain.net.nz, who is the legal registered trademark to own domain.nz if they both want it. Its really something that hasn't been cleared by both sides.

Cheers,

KK

If you are involved in any sort of business or marketing and communications then the term "across developments" or across various projects tends to be used quite often. It just means that you are aware of the developments on several different projects, or in this case, news stories.

This "new" bastardised English has been around for quite a while.
