2006-11-08 09:36:00 | OK, I'm with Xtra and still on their Adventure plan (didn't want to change to 'Go Large' and be lumped in with all the others) Since late last month my connection suddenly goes down, it has happened 4-5 times but only in the later evening around 10-10.30pm (I use comp all day and no problems). I'm not downloading anything, but seems to happen when I'm browsing overseas sites 1st, then can't even get to NZ sites. Resetting the router makes no difference, the only option is to reboot the computer. My question is- is it more likely Xtra can't cope or something wrong at my end? It's getting pretty frustrating around here and if it's because of the change to Xtra's 'max speed' plans I don't see why I should take a dive in quality of service when paying the same as before.

2006-11-08 09:42:00 | Have you phoned Xtra & complained? ( imo that the best way to go, the more people complain the better ), we have phone Xtra to complain to them about the speed of the go large plan & we have got a case number & they should get back to us in a few days. | stu161204 (123) | |
2006-11-08 09:46:00 | No, I haven't phoned them yet. I don't want to assume that the problem is at their end, but I can't think of anything I've done that would cause it (besides upgrading to F/fox 2.0) I was more wondering if others are having similar problems as in the past Telecom have been very quick to fob me off by saying "The problem is not at our end..."

2006-11-08 09:56:00 | Really hard to diagnose intermittent issues like this. I'm with Xtra as well and also have random occasions when I can't connect to sites. Disconnecting and reconnecting usually helps for me. | Greg (193) | |
2006-11-08 18:44:00 | Ring Xtra and complain. I had a similar problem. Periodically my connection was up and down like a yoyo. They tried to tell me the problem was at my end, but eventually the technician switched me to a new card in the exchange and the problem was cured. So its worth a try. | ManUFan (7602) | |
2006-11-08 22:42:00 | Hi Guys, We don't know enough to eliminate Telecom as the issue, but... If rebooting the router does not fix the issue, and rebooting the PC does, perhaps indicates problem lies between the PC and Router, guess likelier at the PC end. All sorts of unknowable stuff can accumulate inside a PC over a full day's use. As a suggestion (to prove or elimnate!): - If Firefox is suspected, try going back to IE for a day or so. - If PC is suspected / used all day, try rebooting mid-evening before the issue happens. - If issue remains unchanged, think some more (and would be interesting to know what happens...) | 497563 | 2006-11-08 23:16:00 | I have been having the same disconnection issues since the plans got "upgraded" a couple of weeks ago and I got moved to the Go Large plan. Constant drop-outs every evening. Real pain when trying to game online! Been in constant contact with Xtra - first stage was line test which was fine. Second stage was replacement router which made no difference to the problem. I''d been told that there were "teething" problems with Go Large by one of the Xtra technicians and I should try another plan - but they now won't allow me to go back to the Adventure Plan I was online and the only other plan they have available is $30 more a month! I will be calling them again tonight (5th time) to give them one more chance to send a technician out to try and find the problem - otherwise, bye bye Xtra!

Maybe worth a try in your case? | Erayd (23) | ||
2006-11-09 01:19:00 | I shouldnt have changed either. I used to have the 5GB plan which was okay, I need to change from this Go Large ****e due to speed & unable to use for Remote Office, but their is no 5GB plan now,so have to spend $30 more!! | SolMiester (139) | |
