| 497472 | 2006-11-08 06:32:00 | Hello members Aneighbour called me over to see his machine, a Compaq Pressario. The only thing it comes up with is "disk read error press crtl, alt delete" I checked to see if the floppy was still there, no so.. I did insert the XP CD and went to the recovery. One of the things I did then was to try the CHKDSK and I got as much as: "performing additional checking and recovery... " and that was all, no further steps where possible. Later on it came up on the screen: "1720 Hardware detects imminent failure" So do I have any chance? Should I try to reinstall XP? Help is very much appreciated. Thanks Gion |

| 497474 | 2006-11-08 07:07:00 | Hi Speedy Do you mean installing WIN on another HDDrive and then check if the drive is accessable as slave? Or take the drive out and place in another computer and see if it is accessible? G |

| 497477 | 2006-11-08 09:15:00 | I had the exact same error on a Presario. I took it to VisualGroup (HP repair center) and they fixed it right up. They said there was nothing wrong. Well I got a new motherboard from it...meh. |

| 497478 | 2006-11-08 16:40:00 | Hi trinsic And how long after you bought it? Is there such thing as a life guarantie? I did actualy started to run Spinrite and it said something of a sector ...just forgoten it. And it was very very slow so we did exit...So it sounded like trouble. We will get a new HDD install OS and try to find documents on the (failed?) HDD. Any other ideas? Thanks G |
