497866 2006-11-10 00:24:00 Hi I probably have too many anti spam/spyware/virus programmes, my laptop is running soooo slow I'm about to smash it! Can there be a conflict with too many of these applications? I have checked out msconfig to see which startup programmes I have and   only recognise a few... what is the first thing I should be doing to remedy a super slow system? Please help or the pc gets it! chocolate2006 (11426)
497867 2006-11-10 00:29:00 Nortons is a / the cause of a slow system. Its a memory / resource hog.

What other spyware / AV programs are installed?

And what version of Windows have u got and how much ram is installed?

497868 2006-11-10 00:29:00 Norton is probably the real problem...check it out...most people here hate it for that very reason...use the Search link above here ^^^^ and type in Norton and c 4 urself. SurferJoe46 (51)

Hey surfer I have Spyware Doctor and a free spyware scanner I d/loaded off the net. Windows XP and 224mb RAM. Should I also be looking at unchecking startup programmes or do you think it could just be a Norton issue? I subscribed to Norton - waste of $ huh?

497870 2006-11-10 00:44:00 What's the name of the "free spyware scanner" you downloaded?

And do you know how to use HijackThis & post a log here?
That's your best way to get a proper analysis of your problem.

Edit: At least post a list of your StartUp entries. That's likely to be one cause...

224 mb isn't that much, when running XP. And when you're running a Nortons program.

Is it Nortons AV or Internet Security, which includes the AV?

I wouldnt uncheck any programs under msconfig. Tick the wrong one/s and you can have probs.

I would get hijackthis (www.merijn.org) unzip this and run it click on scan and save a log and copy and paste the log back here.

BUT, I would say Nortons would be the main prob.

The scanner is 'Free Spyware Scanner' from Spycleaner-Gold.com , and no I don't know how to use the HijackThis...?

After u post the log, use Spybot (www.spybot.info) instead. Download the program and the detection updates.

Install both. Then do a scan with it. I would uninstall that free spyware scanner program.
