497888 2006-11-10 06:47:00 Speedy can you recommend a good firewall? I just d/loaded 'ZoneAlarm' with the AV disabled. Do ppl still use their default windows firewall? chocolate2006 (11426)
497889 2006-11-10 06:59:00 No, not a lot of people use XP's firewall, as it only blocks incoming not outgoing connections .

So, if a trojan or something got thru XP's firewall wouldnt stop it .

I used to use Zonealarm and Nortons, but they had a habit of turning their main service off, which also stopped you from browsing the internet .

Until u restarted the service again . And it started to get annoying, restarting the service all the time .

I use Comodo (http://www . personalfirewall . comodo . com/) now .

It's free . You need Windows 2000 + to use it . You have to request a code to register it, they send it to you, you register it after u get the code, and then its free for life .

They also have a free AV program, but it may still be a bit buggy to use . I use Avast! at the mo, but it isnt free .

Just remember to disable XP's firewall (if you use another one, if the other firewall doesnt turn it off) .

497890 2006-11-11 04:19:00 Since you've so many AV installed it is causing a real slow down because of Anti-Viurs conflicts. I've use McAfee and BitDefender together and the whole system has slown down for no reason the first one installed fine is McAfee and after running the computer for a while and I install the BitDefender and the whole system slow down like hell.
So? I removed the BitDefender which took me ages to do it. And it is running fine again.
If I wanna install BitDefender I have to remove McAfee first and running one AV at a time not both even a P4 with HT can't handle that. Got it? Resource hogs is another thing.
PS Have your laptop have been service for once? When? If it is still slow down and the sinker fan is running non-stop just PM me OK?

Just to add to Speedy's comment about avast! antivirus.

He said it wasn't free.
But there is a free version - which many of us here use.
I switched from AVG to free avast! and am very happy with it.
