498276 2006-11-12 01:07:00 my Dell came with mcafee preinstalled and i uninstalled it from the control panel.

i was trying to install kaspersky, and it said it detects McAfee Security Center and cant co-exist, so wants me to uninstall it before going any further.

so now i dont know what to do. since McAfee doesnt show up in the add/remove programs.

498277 2006-11-12 01:14:00 Delete its folder in program files / delete its folders in C:\Documents and Settings/ all users and username if its there.

Then use ccleaner (www.ccleaner.com) install it run it, and click on run cleaner first, then click on issues tab / scan for issues and let it remove all the crap.

Then see if Kaspersky installs.

498278 2006-11-12 01:18:00 I don't have a Dell and haven't tried it, but I saw this on Majorgeeks that appears to do the trick (McCafee is included in the list):

498282 2006-11-12 01:50:00 ccleaner cleans the hdd and gets rid of invalid things in the registry.
