499067 2006-11-14 07:06:00 Ive used this forum before and it has proved to be very helpful. HOPEFULLY someone will be able to help me this time round.

My computer is set up in the lounge of my flat and everyone uses it and i have no way of monitoring who goes on what sites. Lately my computer has been quite slow and everytime i go on the internet these sites come up advertising casinos, virus protection and porn-related stuff. Its not nice and i don't want to have to be faced with these dirty pictures everytime i try to use the internet.

My computer has up to date NORTON anti virus software. And it assures me it is not infected by a virus.
Sometimes this yellow triangle comes up on the task bar with an explanation mark in it saying stuff like "Malware Threats - Your computer is infected with a backdoor trojan that allows the remote attacker to perform various malicious actions. Click this baloon to download malware removal software" When i click on it it it just takes me to this site advertising different virusware, and its all crappy stuff no Norton antivirus on anything like that.

Anyone have any idea what i can do to remove this stuff and to stop websitescoming up with flithy pictures and crapy products?

Please help me!

Thanks so much :) :help:

499068 2006-11-14 07:19:00 Download "Ad-aware" and "Spybot- Search and Destroy", and run. If you do a search on this site you will see them recommended many times.

499069 2006-11-14 07:19:00 Hi,

Seems like Spyware Quake infection or similar but best thing to do would be download trial of Counterspy . Fully update it and run a full system scan . Remove anything it finds .

. sunbelt-software . com/CounterSpy . cfm" target="_blank">www . sunbelt-software . com

Then follow instructions here if the flashing exclamation is still there . . .

. bleepingcomputer . com/forums/topic47826 . html" target="_blank">www . bleepingcomputer . com

Also another post to check out is this one as the guy has exactly the same flashing problem as you:

. newbie . org/help/index . php?showtopic=3098" target="_blank">www . newbie . org

Oh and when the infection is gone and your comp seems normal again, remove counterspy as it hogs up a lot of memory with its active protection program . Do as what the above post suggests and download ad-aware and spybot . . run scans of these every two weeks manually to keep your comp free of spyware .

Also to block spyware/malware/porn websites but still have control over who gets unrestricted access use:

K9 web protection

. download . com/K9-Web-Protection/3000-2162_4-10519321 . html?tag=lst-3-1" target="_blank">www . download . com

Excellent free program that lets you decide when and where people can surf and already has updateable blacklists .

499074 2006-11-14 10:19:00 And then when you've cleaned your PC out, stop eveybody else from using it! lol Sick Puppy (6959)
499075 2006-11-14 10:23:00 If I were you I use paid version Lavasoft Ad-Aware to clean those nasty things out.
Norton? Norton is a crap anti-virus solution for you computer that's why it didn't detect any viruses. Use BitDefender is the best, either a second choice is McAfee(Not that bad, but Norton is worst).

499076 2006-11-14 12:07:00 In one word. PASSWORD!

To elaborate: Set up a password protected user account for your computer, and the Screen Saver, then things like this won't happen.
