498978 2006-11-14 01:14:00 Chaps . .

First post . . I'm on Actrix having made the switch from Telecom around 12 months ago . . . so haven't experienced the dramas most of you have with the new Go Large plan . One of the guys who works with me has just changed from his old 5 gig cap to Go Large and after 4 days of slow download hell emailed xtra helpdesk . .

Even overnight it's taking 20 hours + to download the smallest of files . .

This was the response . . . It looks like they have abandonded the ' peak hours' unlimited speed policy for the time being . . . Or perhaps the helpdesk reply was wrong . . Whatever . . Thought you may want to see it . . .

Thank you for your email .

The speed on the Go Large can reduce when the connection to the p2p software is detected . This means that your entire connection including any emails and surfing will reduce in speed .

Initially we were expecting peak and off peak times we could use the traffic management at certain times . However due to the popularity of the Go Large plan, there is no off peak times as the network is very busy all the time, and therefore traffic shaping is implemented .

It would be recommended that you download when you are not at the PC .

Kind regards

498979 2006-11-14 02:18:00 So why is it still advertised as unlimited?
Now even in night time its not unlimited, so what part is unlimited? Or do they assume 700MB is more or less unlimited for the avg person each day?

498984 2006-11-14 03:33:00 It just got a whole heap funnier :D

Said friend just spent 20 minutes on phone to helpdesk..

1. Lots of agreement around crap problems.
2. Told him that the problem was his end, not Telecoms.
Try re-installing software etc.
3. Said they had a ' couple ' of problems but not too many reports.

My mates response was " You got to be kidding..Have you not been reading the forums!!! " .....

3. Helpdesk guy started trying to bluff around traffic shaping and believed it wasn't causing the problems.
4. Wouldn't answer when asked if it was on 24/7 - changed the topic.
5. Became very friendly and "we shouldn't say this but"...then offered a whole bunch of personal comments around the plans not working well etc, and he wouldn't be moving up to Go large.
6. Then said " I really understand your problem but there is nothing Telecom or I can do" ?????
7. After lots of badgering and polite hollering the Explorer plan (that was no longer available ) suddenly just became available and there was now the opportunity of being returned to that plan..

Mission accomplished...I feel kind of sorry for the frontline helpdesk guys who must feel stuck between a rock and a hard place...

So the original plans still exist and they will move you if pushed enough...

498985 2006-11-14 04:00:00 I have not read all the last post yet. This is getting funny :D Hahaha hehehe HA HA HA HA HE HE HE HE. No way hole-say am I gonna get Get Large or any Telecom plans. Maybe it's not so bad staying with dialup. I get to save a $600 or $1000 on fees and then $350 by not getting a wireless modem, 2 wireless cards and wire service ;)

Once I get BB, I cannot not get it so I will stay put.
