2006-11-13 01:31:00 I have been assisting at a school, connecting a suite of computers to the school network. One of the machines was faulty and had to be returned to the supplier for repair. It has now been returned and has had XP SP2 reinstalled with the latest updates, including IE7. Unfortunately all of the other PCs have IE6 on them. For uniformity it is preferable that all machines are running the same software. Is it possible to uninstall the IE7 and replace it with IE6. If so , how would I go about uninstalling it? The other alternative would be to install IE7 on all of the computers in the school - a large task. allcamp (1882)
2006-11-13 01:47:00 You should find an uninstall option in Add/Remove for 7.That should then revert back to IE6 Pancake (6359)
2006-11-13 02:13:00 Thank you, Pancake. I checked there first but there was no option to add/remove IE. I don't know if IE6 had ever been installed previously. The computer is one of a group that had been refurbished and sent to the school by a leasing company. I was never able to get this one to boot up and consequently had to send it back. All other machines had IE6 on them. START/ALL PROGRAMS does not offer the option to uninstall IE. allcamp (1882)
2006-11-13 02:59:00 It looks like you have to do Plan B. Microsoft should have released IE 7 as a critical update by now. pcuser42 (130)

2006-11-13 04:13:00 Thanks for all the helpful suggestions so far. I won't be back at the school for a couple of days and will see what I can do then. I can't remember whether "Show updates" was ticked or not. I suspect that pcuserwinxp's suggestion may be the one that will have to be done. TOYOTA! allcamp (1882)
2006-11-13 04:52:00 use imaging software, create an image of a machine with ie 6 on it and then cast that image on to the replacement machine this will only work if the replacment machine has EXACTLY the same hardware as the master machine ie the one that the software image was created on beama (111)
