2006-11-12 19:40:00 | Thought it would interesting to see if the "We would think more than half are getting increased speeds at this stage," says Telecom's Kevin Bowler. claim had any substance in the "real" world...... | snoopy (74) | |
2006-11-12 19:47:00 | Hi Snoopy, See what I get with my xtra plan- after commenting on my lack of enthusiam after going to the latest program Default Re: Does your broadband feel unleashed yet? Join Geoff's test Hi, This is not a boast, although I suspect somebody will have egg on their face As usual , when I fire up my pooter, I test my speed of download and up load on xtra 's bar graph. I had commented to xtra that my download speed was less(sometimes) than when I used Go . This morning at 8.20 a m, I got 875801kb/e and 8254,8 Kbytes/s I am too dumb and old to read this correctly-is it good or is it good effie c

2006-11-12 20:38:00 | Well it's been nearly 3 weeks now since the unleashing has occurred and even though my speed has doubled (from a whopping 1Mb to 2Mb connection, despite paying for a 3.5Mb one, which is now supposed to be 7Mb+ apparently) I have to say without any doubt than Telecom has once again screwed the New Zealand public and New Zealand business over and made complete fools of the government. Thanks Mr Cuncliffe but I think it's time for another jackass to take your place, Telecom is not going to bow down to some government regulation no matter what. NZ broadband has from it's initial conception been crap and will continue to be crap for years to come until the government grows some balls and beats Telecom into submission, which is frankly the only way New Zealand is going to get any sort of decent broadband internet. In the meantime I will wait with gleeful anticipation (sorry correction) disdain for the next so-called upgrade, who knows maybe after 3 or 4 DOZEN attempts we might actually hit 10Mb before the year 2020. For those of you who are enjoying the benefits of the recent upgrade, enjoy it, proof at least that Telecom can do 1 or 2 things right. The fact that not everyone can benefit from a network upgrade (as we were promised) shows clearly that Telecom is an incompetant Telco that has more concern for profit that the actual services they provide (or shall I say alleged services they provide) END RANT chiefnz

2006-11-12 20:38:00 | With iHug and it is faster than our old 3.5Mbs plan. Busy downloading two files of 457MB and 257MB and one is coming down at about 350KB/s and the other at about 150KB/s. Will let you know how long each took to download when they finish.

2006-11-12 21:07:00 | Well, I thought the Firefox download window would tell me how long each file took to download but it doesn't! Anyway both came down pretty quickly. In fact the 457MB file came down faster than the 257MB one. Avg speed for the 457MB file was 400KB/s and the 257MB one was 150KB/s.

2006-11-12 23:12:00 | Your last 2 readings are your line speed from NZ sites, the previous excessive reading is from your cache. Your line speed is approximately 1517.1 Kbps or 185.9 K bytes/sec ( Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes ) and 1333.8/133 kb.s now the question is are these better (if you were previously on broadband) than you were getting prior to the massive unleashing of all the unlimited speed ? cough cough :) :)

2006-11-12 23:15:00 | Do have some quick points on downloading but overall nothing like it should be. I used to have the full speed when it first came out under JetStream and then you could download at 700K/sec. Now tops I have got is 450 K/sec. Upload speed is certainly better but again not what it should be.
