498470 2006-11-13 08:52:00 On the NZ site I'm getting 3072 kb down. Is this about right for a 7.5 Mb connection?? I certainly haven't seen this speed anywhere else...

EDIT - 384 Transfer...so it is the same as my old ihug 3.5 connection despite being a slingshot 7.5 connection...this is crap.

498472 2006-11-13 10:29:00 Rang Xtra again today to find out where the technician that was supposed to come and see me at home on Friday got to.

Guy at the helpdesk couldn't give me any further information of the techie's whereabouts so I'm still stuck with a speed that is more that twice as slow before it was 'unleashed'. :badpc:

All they will own up to is they think there is a line fault.

Thanks for the info, they have already given me a spiel about if it isn't their fault then they will charge me. Doubt if they will be able pin the blame on me though. :stare:

498475 2006-11-13 21:21:00 It's like SkyTV. If the faults with your hardware its your problem. Which they charge for. If it is the phone lines they are free. trinsic (6945)
498476 2006-11-13 22:11:00 I'm on Xtra with the Pro Advanced plan, FS down/FS up, 30 GB cap. I'm in Dinsdale, Hamilton.

My speeds have dropped since the unleashing. The actual connection has become rather unstable. My router seems to disconnect all the damn time, it will stay online for an hour, drop connection and when does reconnect it gets a fresh 125 IP address. The longest I've seen it stay online in the past 2 weeks or so is about 4 hours

Speeds are all over the place. I've seen it ranging from 4256 Kbps to as low as 420 Kbps downstream.

Here is a pic of the most recent speed test: www.speedtest.net

Another from a few days ago: www.speedtest.net

In short I'm just very unhappy with it.

When the plan was 3.5 down/512 up, 20 GB cap it was fine, connection was stable, router never dropped connection, would stay connected for day after day. It was also like that since I joined with Xtra back in March of 2005 when the plan 2Mb up/192Kb up.

I've already made a complaint with Xtra, apparently a Tech is scheduled to visit my house tomorrow to check the line and so on.
If I don't see the speeds improve and the stability return than I guess its bye bye Xtra.

Whats the deal with this whole 125 IP/222 IP drama anyway. I've already been told by Xtra customer support that if your not on the Go Large plan you shouldn't have a 125 IP. Pro plans should be in the 222 IP range.

498477 2006-11-14 01:15:00 Well speed is still crap, I"ve rebooted by router so many times it'll make your head spin. Currently Downstream/Upstream rates on the router are 2496Kbps/160Kbps, I usually average 2.1Mbps and lowest I've been is 0.5Mbps.

Not happy at all. Couldn't be bothered ringing the ISP as I'm busy studying for an exam. Will probably get to it afterwards though. I'm not too fussed really, I'm saving $20/month and the speed is "adequate" for the mean time.

Cheers

498478 2006-11-14 03:01:00 Through what I have assessed, the 125 IP range is Go Large, I would reboot your router or just disconnect, reconnect. I have had to do that once to correct the IP range.

I have just read the Layer 10 report done in Aug 06 about the release of transmission power for controlling speeds etc, and alledgedly, the distance from the exchange is a bogus excuse from Telecom.

I couldnt believe we have a company that balantly lied to its customers charging full price for a product when it only provides not even half that advertised/promotes.

While Telecom shouts fair use policy at us, it shows none itself. Where is the plan for 2mb where customers cant get the full 7.5. Its not my fault I cant receive full stream, I didnt lay the lines!

Oh, and how do you like the fact there is no 5Gb plan anymore....sucker you into Go Large, now you cant go back to your old plan. 2Gb too little, 15Gb too much @ $30 more......

Man, you got to give it to Telecom, they really know how to rip off customers..
