Anyway, the above is good advice. But if you do a search on the forum for Norton, you'll see many members screw their noses up at it. Get different antivirus software once it is all fixed. (And not McAfee either!)

Oh and when the infection is gone and your comp seems normal again, remove counterspy as it hogs up a lot of memory with its active protection program.

Actually it doesn't. What hogs resources is ThreatNet. Turn that off.

I also turn off a few off the Active Protection bits for those things that don't apply to me - like IE stuff - as I no longer have IE or OE installed.

And if you ever download an updated version, make sure you thoroughly remove the old one first - manually if necessary as it doesn't do it for you and you end up with duplicate processes.
