498685 2006-11-14 08:12:00 Ahh I see I see....this make fixing the HDD very difficult if I wanted the HDD to be plugged in >_<.

Btw where are most HDD been made these days? I know before most or atleast most that I've seen were from either Malaysia or Singapore the one I got was from China and there has been several new ones that I've seen that were also from China.China? What brand is that? Hmm, looks like HDD is a sensitive thing so I'll take made in Singapour one. Made in Malaysia is crap, my 200GB WD is 2 yrs old and it is nearly ends of its life. I make use of my old seagate more than the WD HDD and the seagate is older. :yuck: WD is crap, must be cheap Malaysian labour.

498686 2006-11-14 09:07:00 Yeah the dead hdd was a sata Seagate 120Gb made in China, a first for me. Just brought an other hdd today, sata Seagate 250Gb made in Thailand.

Would really like to know if sata standalone are really hot swapable, already have one vote for yes...more would get me a better sleep at night :) as I'm keen in trying to get my files off the HDD before it becomes a door stopper ^^

Damn, many companies are getting cheaper labours means the HDD life is becoming shorter and shorter. I have a 40GB HDD Seagate and used it for around 4yrs+ and no problem at all.
Now the WD(Western Digital) bought it around 2004 and after 2 years usage it is going to die.
 What Seagate HDD can I get that is made in Singapour? I mean at least 100GB above?
500GB ones?

498689 2006-11-14 11:01:00 Aren't SATA's HotSwapable? Plug it in when your in windows.

WHAT??? Really???

yes they are hot swappable, but be careful with the power connector, cause if you want to know if doing it wrong does something, it does;)

and if the circut board is dead you could pay ALOT of money to get the data recovered off the platters, but i'd first try using some sotware to do it

498690 2006-11-15 05:55:00 Thanks for everyone's help .

Tried plugging in the sata hdd while Xp was on but no luck .

However came across this prog Spinrite and my GOD it WORKS . Manage to get the HDD showing in Xp and backed up my files . Although my previous corrupted files I had on the drive were still un-recoverable . However I think it could be because I only allowed Sprinrite recover up to 31% of my HDD . . . . why . . . because just trying to recover those 31% took 18hrs >_<

Thanks again
