498581 2006-11-13 06:17:00 I get 800 down 135 up for Auckland and 300 (stayed at 100 for ages) down and 120 up for Los Angeles. Just wait for Telecom to sort themselves.

omg.............try a 'tracert' on that losangeles server and you'll find it's no where near as 'direct' a server as the auckland one.........what do you expect....that a file downloaded from a server in los angeles will have as few other servers to 'hop' thru as one in auckland. ?.....and every server on the network can be a bottleneck.......its a FACT that when doin a speed test DONT do it from some server around the other side of the world unless you WANT to get a slower reading............it's obvious really

On the other hand I got 3148 down on the Sydney server and 132 up.

The Auckland server gave me 1489 down and 125 up.

I live in the central North Island and I'm with Telecom.

Yes it is obvious, and one would expect such tests to show lower speed than a hop from Auckland, but the thing is these sorts of international download speeds are now much slower on Go Large than they ever were on the old plans before unleashing. Though, early morning tests do show an improvement over the last few days, from the pathetic dialup speeds Go Large was initially giving.

I understand that other plans that do not have the 'fair use' and 'traffic management' packet filtering (layer 7 or whatever), have not experienced the same loss of speed. Indeed when the 219.xxx series IP was 'erroneously' allocated for a few hours, speed rocketed up, presumably there was no 'management' with those IP addresses.

498583 2006-11-13 20:23:00 Depending on the site, i'm experiencing the same sort of slowdowns on Ihug too. It mostly affects sites such as RapidShare, Megaupload etc, newsgroups are also slower. autechre (266)
