498460 2006-11-12 23:18:00 Well it's been nearly 3 weeks now since the unleashing has occurred and even though my speed has doubled (from a whopping 1Mb to 2Mb connection, despite paying for a 3.5Mb one, which is now supposed to be 7Mb+ apparently) I have to say without any doubt than Telecom has once again screwed the New Zealand public and New Zealand business over and made complete fools of the government.

Thanks Mr Cuncliffe but I think it's time for another jackass to take your place, Telecom is not going to bow down to some government regulation no matter what. NZ broadband has from it's initial conception been crap and will continue to be crap for years to come until the government grows some balls and beats Telecom into submission, which is frankly the only way New Zealand is going to get any sort of decent broadband internet.

In the meantime I will wait with gleeful anticipation (sorry correction) disdain for the next so-called upgrade, who knows maybe after 3 or 4 DOZEN attempts we might actually hit 10Mb before the year 2020.

For those of you who are enjoying the benefits of the recent upgrade, enjoy it, proof at least that Telecom can do 1 or 2 things right. The fact that not everyone can benefit from a network upgrade (as we were promised) shows clearly that Telecom is an incompetant Telco that has more concern for profit that the actual services they provide (or shall I say alleged services they provide)

END RANT

That my friend is so correct, it is frightening. Telecom are having a laugh, we all know what they think of customers and fact that you really need corporate muscle to get anywhere with this outfit. The government really is a wet paper bag when it comes to dealing with Telecom.

See above.

498465 2006-11-13 01:37:00 Mine is a whole lot faster than what is was before FS/FS, although it crawls at < 800kbps during peak times. :groan:

International speeds aren't quite as good though, but still respectable:

498466 2006-11-13 03:42:00 Speeds at just after 4PM:

National:

Jetstream Speed Test: 1404.8 Kbps
NZ DSL Speed Test: 813 Kbps

International:

Los Angeles: 914 Kbps
Dallas: 1181 Kbps
New York: 843 Kbps

London: 397 Kbps
Paris: 491 Kbps
Amsterdam: 415 Kbps

Yokohama: 901 Kbps
Singapore: 1180 Kbps
Hong Kong: 957 Kbps

However, as all the school kids arrive home from school, it will halve, and then around 6PM when everyone gets home from work, it will decrease to an average of around 400-500Kbps. This really hasn't changed since before the unleashing, it's just that now my connection to the exchange is 2144 Kbps instead of the old ~3600 Kbps, so off peak speeds in the middle of the night are slower, but not at peak times as they never reach this size anyway. I take it that everyone is supposed to have been unleashed now? If so, I will call xtra tomorrow to ask why our connection to the exchange has been decreased.
