2006-11-14 09:08:00 | Screenshot of error message here: imagef1.net.nz This has occurred after I installed the latest Acronis True Image (version 10), and try to make a back up image or back up a set of files. Googling, I found this MS page: support.microsoft.com And the advice given is: "To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:" Do I really have to contact Microsoft :groan: , or is there another way to fix this problem? Thanks.

2006-11-14 17:41:00 | Try and find an earlier version of the file mentioned on the MS site. Thanks Mike. Since I posted, I installed Acronis 10 on my wife's laptop and it works fine. Is it simply OK to copy the two files mentioned on the MS help page [ Msvcirt.dll and Msvcrt.dll ] from the laptop and paste it into windows \ system32 ...?

2006-11-14 19:59:00 | Just make sure you have a copy of the ones you are replacing and have Recovery Console handy ( I prefer having it as a boot option) incase you need to copy them back. | mikebartnz (21) | |

2006-11-14 23:11:00 | Success !! :) A SEARCH on the hard drive found the two missing DLLs located here: C:\WINDOWS\WINSxS Here is a screenshot from the laptop HD showing that the DLLs are actually located within three folders labelled "CPlusPlusRuntime" (etc): imagef1.net.nz But when I checked my desktop (which had the Acronis runtime error), there were only two of the three folders. The missing one ended in: b2505ed9 which is at the bottom of the screenshot. So I simply copied the missing folder and trasferred it using a USB stick onto my desktop. Acronis performed just fine, backing up - and later restoring - several items of data. Although I have not yet tried a full HD back up, Acronis would not do anything prior to adding the DLL folder.

2006-11-14 23:19:00 | Speedy, Mike, PCTek, and other PF1 experts - What does C++ Runtime actually do, in simple terms? And would it be possible for a program such as Acronis to check (during installation) to see that all DLLs are actually present - and if not then add them - rather than to cr*p out with an error message?

2006-11-15 00:59:00 | Pass wouldnt have a clue, I think its just part of a programming language and the library required for that program wasnt installed, so it did a hissy fit and refused to run properly . Until the right library was installed / copied . So it'd work properly . There most probably is a way for the program to check what versions (if any) library are installed . Acronis just didnt bother to do it .

2006-11-15 09:44:00 | Well, the success is not total. :( While Acronis can do selected data backup and restore, it refuses to do a full disk image back up. So it looks like I will have to paste in the other two C++ folders (from the laptop). Tomorrow... :dogeye: Here is the "TrueImageService.exe - Application Error" that popped up when trying to do a full image backup: imagef1.net.nz
