499754 2006-11-16 20:14:00 Will this work...

I need to connect my adsl modem and my telephone to the same socket. My modem is an internal PCI variety, which uses a regular dial-up modem cable. So if I use a telephone double adaptor like this (www.dse.co.nz), with my modem cable plugged into one side and my phone plugged into a filter and plugged into the other side, will I be able to use both adsl and phone at the same time?

I realise it's possible of course using my other computer with its ethernet cable and adaptor/filter. But that doesn't suit for my main machine.

Thanks.

499755 2006-11-16 20:16:00 Greg, no that wont work......

You need the filter to split the signal into high and low

499756 2006-11-16 20:21:00 I'll be using a filter for the phone though.

Picture it like this:

phone -----filter-----adaptor------wall socket

499757 2006-11-16 20:22:00 from the double adaptor plug the Bb phone cable into it and then into the puter.....on the other side plug in your Bb filter and plug the phone into the 'phone' side of that........very simple and OF COURSE it'll work......you DONT filter the Bb signal to your modem.......you DO filter to phones.......I have a similar setup with a triple adaptor and my dialup internal modem and phone on one 'side' and the bb line goin to my external modem on the other....works perfectly drcspy (146)
499758 2006-11-16 20:39:00 Thanks.

My attempt to show the layout above went a bit screwy. The intended layout is like this (www.imagef1.net.nz).

Anyway, thanks again.

499759 2006-11-16 20:45:00 That's fine.
Just treat the modem as if it was a phone (which is what you are doing)

499760 2006-11-16 21:00:00 Ok Greg, yes, will work if filter used....I thought you were just using the double adapter....duh! SolMiester (139)
499761 2006-11-16 22:48:00 You can get ADSL/Phone Splitters from DSE as well ;) trinsic (6945)
499762 2006-11-16 23:11:00 ust treat the modem as if it was a phone (which is what you are doing)

WRONG...........that's EXACTLY what you DONT do.......you dont 'treat' your adsl modem as a phone..........
