499563 2006-11-16 03:19:00 Hello, I've recently started having a problem with my computer. I'm not sure if this is a software issue or a hardware so I'm hoping someone can help me out. When I run a full screen application like this game I was running and I switched over to the desktop screen using Alt + Tab, it would freeze if I stay there for a bit. A beep noise would beep from my computer and then the whole style freezes. Can't pretty anything. The music thats on continues to play though. I reformatted my computer recently and the problem has appeared ever since. I don't think I've done anything wrong though. Hope someone can help!

My system is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+, 1Gb of Ram, Radeon x1600 512mb video card, 200Gb+ hard drive running on windows XP that i recently purchased. Any help is greatly appreciated. =]

499564 2006-11-16 03:22:00 When you re-installed windows, did you use the drivers that came on the CD, ie: Motherboard chipset drivers (very important), sound, video, NIC drivers, and probably alot of everything else! SolMiester (139)
499565 2006-11-16 03:25:00 Yeh I'm pretty sure I did. Well actually I'm not quite sure about my video drivers I might have gotten on from the site. But not likely. I think I did install everything the same as it was before. samasaur (11477)
499566 2006-11-16 03:28:00 Could be overheating or something. If it freezes with everything u do.

Did u buy this system or make it up yourself?

499567 2006-11-16 03:36:00 Well it wasn't like this before. I got it recently and it wasn't like this. I don't see how overheating can be the issue =( but i'm not really that great with computers. It only freezes when I switch from fullscreen applications back to the desktop, then it freezes. samasaur (11477)

Sounds like driver issues releasing from 3d to 2d......so you may need to try different grahic drivers....ATI aren't known for their video drivers. You will need to get driver cleaners also...

Wouldnt hurt updating the motherboard drivers also...

Well check.
In fact I'd download new chipset drivers from your motherboard manufacturers site and install them, likewise your graphics card driver - download the newest ATI driver - get both the main driver and the WDM.

And be aware a lot of games don't like it if you ALT TAB to the desktop.
Apart from when you do that - any other problems? If not, just don't in that particular game.

499570 2006-11-16 11:27:00 I haven't tried any other games yet, so I don't have a clue. I'll try to look for some new drivers for my video card and see how it goes. The thing I'm wondering is, why didn't it happen before. Game worked fine when using the Alt + Tab feature before. samasaur (11477)

ati.amd.com

Then it is a driver issue.
Get the latest chipset drivers too.
