499384 2006-11-15 09:59:00 Ever since I installed IE7 and Firefox 2.0 I can't manually update windows.
It keeps suggesting I enable SSL and HTTPS which I've done but still no joy.
Any ideas apart from rolling back to IE6?

499385 2006-11-15 16:40:00 I've seen and personally had this problem myself.

Gotta ask what firewall you're running and maybe the names of your anti-stuff too.

ZA has a nasty habit of forbidding XP updates.

Other possibilities exist..need some more info.

499386 2006-11-15 21:35:00 I'm currently having all sorts of update problems .

I don't run Zone Alarm, I run the XP firewall, Spybot S & D, Hide i . P platinum . my AVG antivirus will not update and I've tried updating F-Secure after installing it but no luck .

I don't think I've got a router firewall up, but problems have started recently with no changes made to router config .

A bad time token will mess things up like this too.

O

Since when? None of my customers running it ever had any problems getting their updates .

And personally I think it would be a good thing - the updates are a pointless waste of time anyway .

I'm this close to reformatting the mofo.

499391 2006-11-16 08:29:00 On the subject of a firewall stopping XP updates, who of us know what the hell people click when the firewall asks for permission? From many machines I have not seen ZA stop XP updates if the update process is 'allowed'. But I have seen ZA stop IE7 from completing its installation on several machines, but not all (no idea why some are OK). ZA can prevent access to a registry entry so the answer is to shutdown ZA (no need to uninstall it), install IE7, then re-run ZA. linw (53)
499392 2006-11-16 09:12:00 I don't have ZA installed!
I have disabled all firewalls, hide IP, Peer Guardian, Spybot....evrything and it still won't update.
Please see the screenshot to see what I'm talking about. This is frickin ridiculous I have IE 7 installed and it tells me to install the latest version.

Well . . . it happened here and has been the largest bone of contention I have with ZA . . . . .

I actually like ZA, and used it for quite a while until I got denials and time-outs with trying to get M$ and other updates . . I think the hardest to squeak through was my WMP when I tried for a while to goto WMP10 . . . . it would not dnld . I usta have to exit ZA to get them when I needed, and figured this was too much trouble .

I just wonder if there's a co-relation with the CPU usage in ZA and trying to spool dnlds, etc at the same time . Just keeping that cute ZA In/Out info box running near the clock has to use something . . right?

Trying to be flexible, I have tried and dismissed a few anti-things in the years, and recognizing that no two systems are actually the same even when they are the same OPSYS, there's a lot of variety and the spice of life .

Sometimes, it's just what some people get away with, or don't know any better due to ignorance . . etc . Not suggesting that there is ignorance on your behalf as I can see your profesionalism and proof of performance . . . and experience means a lot to me here . . . . . I still offer this:

This does not seem to be slices of black and white here, but rather, shades of grey . No two installs are the same; no anti's react the same in differeing systems or puters .

We can all rally for your experiences and I truly read and listen to all the things you post [I do!] . I am enlightened by them .

I just disagree in sweeping conclusions,
And personally I think it would be a good thing - the updates are a pointless waste of time anyway . . . . . that's all . I am guilty of exactly the same thing . . . . . sorry .
