499197 2006-11-15 01:29:00 I received my new vid card this am. A Raedon X1950 XTX.

I installed the card after a bit of a struggle. It's twice as wide as current card. An InVidia 7900GT.

But my computer will not even boot to post. Power on and it just sits there with fans turning slowly.

I got a professional repairman in to find out if I was doing something wrong. He went over everything and got exactly the same result as me.

Externaly the card seems OK. Nothing bent or broken.

At present the card is away being tested and tried in another com[puter.
But what if it works in another box?

Anyone got any ideas or had simliar problems?
We tried it in both my PCI-E slots. Tried it with SLI enabled and disenabled. All with same result

My InVidia card went back in and works perfectly.

Have you connected the pci-e power connectors to the card?

Yes. Used the original one and then tried the new one that came with card.
Same result.

499200 2006-11-15 01:48:00 I think its quiet a big difference is the power draw there between those 2 cards, what PSU do you have.....If its not that, I would surmise the card is faultly SolMiester (139)

Could be power supply. My psu was described as 520 watts. It came with my Liam Li case and I can not see any name on it without removing the unit.

499205 2006-11-15 02:31:00 Didn't the video card come with the necessary 30 kW gas turbine (or nuclear) generator package, Jack?

It might be a turn on transient problem. I've seen various equipment which could pull enough current when first turned on to stop power supplies from working. The running current is OK, it's just the effect of big capacitors on board which are short circuits until they are charged up.

That big PSU probably pulls 100 amps or more from the mains when it's first turned on. The mains can handle that, for half a cycle. ;) A similar thing can happen on the DC side of the supply with certain types of load, but it's got protection circuitry to shut it down if the current is too high.
