499165 2006-11-14 22:25:00 I was recently at a seminar and in one part, they were recommending a program on XP for new users . It was called MICROSOFT INTERACTIVE TRAINING .

This is found under Start > Programs > Accessories .

Now I am a tech and have been playing with an supporting computers for over 25 years since the TRS-80 days and I have never heard of this program so I looked when I got home .

However it was not on my system and nowhere in Microsoft compenents or on the CD was any reference to installing it .

I then checked Google and found references to it being vulnerable to attack (so whats new with Microsoft) and that it required a particular DLL file . This as well was not on my system .

I then emailed a number of friends and found that some seem to have it and some don't . AND few had heard of it either . Its presence appears to be quite random .

I thought it may have been proprietry installed by large vendors but this theory was soon shot down . Then it seemed to be an XP HOME versus XP PRO thing but this too has been discounted .

Does anyone know what the story is?

499169 2006-11-14 23:12:00 No, its definatly NOT Windows Tour

About 1/3 of those I emailed found it on their system when told where to look. In the demo there was a section on just manipulating Files and Folders, something many have no idea about.

I certainly don't want it for myself but it would be great for many of my less knowledgable friends.

I hope someone knows the answer to this

499170 2006-11-14 23:49:00 I found it on my new laptop that I got a couple of months ago (Conpaq, XP Pro). I was suprised as I had never seen or heard of it before.
I thought it must have been an XP pro thing.

For those of you who don't know, interactive training has an area that you can, well, interact with it. You can click buttons etc, etc.
It (from memory - only looked and played with it once) covers a wide variety of topics to do with win XP.

I too would be interested to know why it appears to be so random.

499171 2006-11-14 23:56:00 I just had a look and it is on the Windows XP Pro OPK (OEM Pre-Installation Kit) CD.

It is not a requirement so not all OEMs are installing it.
There is an XP Home version and an XP Pro version.

499172 2006-11-15 01:07:00 I have it on my Toshiba M30 (a couple of years old now) - XP Pro. I haven't really used it but it seems fairly comprehensive - with no doubt a M$-centric view of things... Menu screenshot here (imagef1.net.nz). johcar (6283)

Thanks for that

Would you mind telling us where on the CD it was. Mine is an Microsploge - :) - XP Pro version.

I have been informed that it has been found on OEM and NOT, On XP Home and NOT and on XP PRO and NOT so it is really very confusing.

Just had another look and I can find no trace of it.

499174 2006-11-15 02:44:00 No it's not on the Windows Operating system CD. It's a CD that comes with the Operating System CDs if you buy a 3 pack from an OEM supplier.
Only OEM manufacturers can get them.
The OPK CD is for OEM manufacturers to make an image that allows them to setup a new PC with whatever windows settings etc plus any other software and then it puts in the state for the end-user so that they get the EULA and have to enter in the product key etc.
