499700 2006-11-18 00:06:00 I have been using "Genie-Soft' backup manager pro for a few years now and have ben very happy with it. It will do what you ask and more. www.genie-soft.comMe too, and I believe they have an online backup service now too. Not free, but not outrageously expensive. I have also found their help desk service to be very responsive. Tony (4941)
499701 2006-11-18 11:35:00 One thing I haven't mentioned is what ever program I end up using must be able to run as a service as this process has to be totally automatic. I will look at Syncback but does it run as a service and will it burn directly to CD-RW, FTP etc.

The last version of True Image can storage your data on networked storage devices, CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW and FTP servers. True Image has a scheduler that can make your backup completely automatic. If you need an encryption True Image has a Acronis Secure Zone that can be password protected. Secure Zone is a hidden partition and it can be located only on hard drive.
True Image scheduler backs up my data every day on external disk. I think storing your data on external disk it is the fastest method.

499703 2006-11-18 22:46:00 I downloaded syncback, on the recommendation of this thread (and because it's free).
It looks like it could be quite useful. I backup onto a linux computer, and up 'till now have used Filezilla to do this, which has worked, but I have to remember to do it. Now, I can schedule for a specific time, and job done:)

499704 2006-11-19 02:46:00 Acronis Version 9 does burn to CD-RW so I am cool there. The file can be passworded so that OK but it looks like I have to get version 10 to backup to FTP but that OK. Will purchase the update version for NZ $47 from Acronis site. berryb (99)
499705 2006-11-19 05:33:00 Acronis ... The file can be passwordeds...

Good point - I forgot to mention this.

Berryb, you say "Encrypting the data is a must as if the CD gets lost then no one can view the files." So yes, there you have it: Acronis can do what you want.
