500393 2006-11-19 02:54:00 Hi all, am hoping somebody may be able to help with this one please.
Have had a system of a ladies, who spends alot of time, or would like too, in particular adult chat rooms. (The systems xp sp2 home). What is happening is she can log/sign in fine, goes to post her message in chat, sometimes its fine, but other times she gets an empty message posted, it appears to be intermittent, which makes it alot harder to pinpoint. So - it will actually say "she" has posted a message, however the message is empty.
I haven't really had alot to do with chat sites myself, but have checked all the obvious things, its not using a proxy, which i was told could have been the cause. Add to that the fact sometimes its fine, i thought maybe it could be the servers used, but on 3 different chat sites (they all appear to be designed the same way though), i doubt it is likely and she says nobody else has the problem with the sites. I have been testing it (the sites) again today on my system using Firefox, having no probs, so i don't think its their servers.

She has had IE7 (beta 2) installed since she brought the system apparently, i updated it to the RC, but i guess will try the final version now its out, to see if that helps, but has had this problem from day one in IE7 she tells me.
I initially thought Firefox would solve the prob, tried installing Firefox 2, however i am getting the same results from that as well????
As i have already mentioned, what makes it hard is the fact that it is an intermittent fault, but usually does appear not far into chat for her.

So is it a problem with her system with javascript (which i know close to nothing about), other non chat websites display fine, also her system is clean of any kind of spyware/viral infection...

The only other thing i wondered, but doubt, is she is using wireless keyboard & mouse, however, when she gets the empty posts, they are definately displayed/typed into the chat box, so i guess if it was a wireless keyboard lag, the message wouldn't be typed into it? Once again, i haven't used a wireless keyboard, so don't know?

Cant find any info googling replicating her problem...

I guess i need to give a link to the sites, but as they are adult chat sites...
So will hold off for now on that one i guess. I have been testing in an "AV design testing room", thats always empty ;).

I seem to remember downloading a file from ms to repair javascript, sometime back, so i guess if i can find that perhaps it would be worth a try?
As the fact that its both IE and FFox may point to a system prob with javascript? Keep wondering if its stemmed from IE7 (which i dont use).
Any opinions/advice appreciated please!

Also she is using B/Band, was with Orcon, now with Xtra, which hasn't made any diffence whatsoever either (as somebody had said perhaps an ISP thing).

TIA

The thing is, it appears the 'enter' key is the only one working - i have also tried submitting posts with the mouse, same thing.

The messages posts to the chat page when using the enter key, just minus text typed in mess. box...

I am going to take a normal KB and mouse around and test with them tomorrow, also i am not sure if i should upgrade to the final release IE7, or totally uninstall IE7 and try going back to IE6.

Cheers

500396 2006-11-22 05:34:00 I think i have pinpointed the problem to the adsl router blocking the chat sites posting! I can connect and chat fine using dialup .

Can anybody please give me any pointers on changes i could make in the router settings that would affect/block the chat sites .
