| 499866 | 2006-11-17 04:33:00 | I'm sure this has been covered many times so I did a search but couldn't find exactly this problem. I wasn't here at the time but ... daughter number 2 was going to copy some music, I think from Ipod to CD. She inserted a blank cd in the drive but the PC was unable to see it to write to it and she could not eject it. Rebooted, turned it off for half an hour with no joy. I turned up and did all the normal stuff ... pressed the eject button on the pc, in Explorer I selected the drive and tried the 'eject' command with no joy. Used the 'paper-clip up the hole' trick but no good. Rebooted while pushing the eject button. Again no good. The PC is seeing the drive no trouble but whenever try to get it to do something it says I need to insert a cd in the drive so I guess it's seeing the drive but not the contents. When i press the eject button i do hear a small whirr and a couple of clicks but nothing else. I'm running XP and have made no changes to the system or added any hardware for months. Any ideas anyone? It's particularly frustrating because the reason for my not being here at the time it fell over was that I was away buying a new printer which I can't use properly as I can't load up the software. |

If you feel around with the paper clip and find the right place to push, quite firmly, it will pop the tray enough to remove the disc but I have never found a permanent cure except to replace the cd unit.
