500169 2006-11-17 23:58:00 I've just had a life-and-death (literally) email rejected with the following part-message:

someone@somewherecom.au
SMTP error from remote mailer after initial connection:
host mx02ai.somewhere.com [xxx.xxx.xx.xx]:
554 mx02ai.somewhere.com

(some details changed for privacy reasons)

My question is: does the

SMTP error from remote mailer after initial connection:

mean the email address is totally munted or is it worth me trying again?

The email address is a large international corporation, so one would not have normally expected errors.

TIA

500170 2006-11-18 00:05:00 Either that, or they're blocking emails from your ISP's server.

Or whoever it is, you're sending emails to, is blocking emails coz of spammers.

Its not an AOL email addy is it? As it looks like this message can appear when u send to AOL users. Coz of spammers. They've blocked you.

The way emails, and the internet in general, has been acting in the last few weeks I would not rely on either of them in a life-and-death situation.

500172 2006-11-18 00:12:00 Thanks for the quick response. My ISP is IHUG, and as I said, the addressee is in a big international corp. with its own domain name, so nothing to do with AOL.

I actually called IHUG, but got fed up waiting.

True, but hardly helpful under the circumstances. All I know is this person works for this organisation, and I got his email address from their website.

500174 2006-11-18 00:21:00 It'll be at the other end not Ihugs .

Not much else u can do if theyre blocking u .

Other than to find another email address (not belonging to that company), for the person you're trying to send email to .

Other than to find another email address (not belonging to that company), for the person you're trying to send email to . I think you're right . It's weird, though . The addressee is a senior executive of this company, and the address came from the company website . I wonder whether he has left and they haven't updated the website but the email address is actually no longer valid? We haven't been in touch for ages (hence the roundabout means of communication), so that may be it .

500176 2006-11-18 00:35:00 The email may still be valid, but any emails going to it wont go coz theyre being blocked, for some reason. Speedy Gonzales (78)
