500147 2006-11-17 22:18:00 Hi All
I`m trying to uninstall an antispyware program through add/remove programs in XP. I get a box with the message "Windows script host access is disabled on this machine. Contact your administrator for details." The uninstall process then fails.
Could some-one advise me, as a first step, how to enable windows script host? The program ( Counterspy) does not have it`s own uninstaller.

Cheers:

500149 2006-11-18 09:29:00 Thanks pctec.

www.developersdex.com Put me on the right track. Just had to alter a registry setting while I uninstalled Counterspy then change it back afterwards.
Uninstalled because it has missed a few things other progs have picked up and, also, I`m on dialup and downloading the updates takes forever.
Thanks again. This really is a useful forum :-)

500151 2006-11-19 04:09:00 Hi again
As to `what things`I couldn`t tell you now. The last was a few weeks ago and can`t recall exactly what it was.
Whatever it was, XoftspySE picked it up on that occasion and MS defender picked something else up before that. I not, by any stretch of the imagination, `computer wise` but have read in a number of places that you cannot rely on any one anti-spyware application alone and it is best to have two or three on the `go` at the same time. Right or not, I don`t know.
I`m definitely not `qualified` to say that one is better than the other. The other thing was the length of time taken to download the updates. It seemed to download the entire database rather than simply update it.
Who knows.....might be able to afford broadband one day :-)

Thanks Again

500152 2006-11-19 04:28:00 most antispyware progs pick up things that others miss/ignore . the trick is WHY the miss it . a lot of the time its a minor thing that dosn't cause any problems .

also beaware of some programs giving false positives .
