500622 2006-11-20 05:02:00 My web camera has stopped working saying it is out of bandwidth. It is connected by USB and I wondered if I added another USB card to my computer would this cure the problem or does the computer allocate a certain bandwidth for USB and adding more USB outlets will not increase it. Can I increase the allocated bandwidth by making adjustments to the computer?

500623 2006-11-20 05:46:00 How many USB ports have you got??

And how many USB devices have you got plugged in?

Are any USB devices running on normal power as well?

A USB device / port only supplies up to 500ma, on each USB port.

Any higher, you may have probs.

500624 2006-11-20 05:56:00 USB hubs (including the built-in PC ones) divide the available bandwidth between all USB ports on a first-come first-served basis and it is not uncommon to run out of bandwidth with certain devices connected.

Another USB card would help, but usually best performance for video camera transfer is obtained using a "firewire" 1384 connection, if the camera and computer support it.

The problem is not usually from excessive power consumption as suggested above, that has a different error message.
