| 501922 | 2006-11-26 02:07:00 | sigh..........as posted by someone else ....a firmware upgrade wont 'fix' the region settings in the player......there certainly are ways to do that but that wasn't what my comment about 'dont fix it' was aimed at.......I for example have a lovely Asus DRW-1608P3S dvd/cd writer....its excellent and has no issues.....therefore I have no desire to 'fix' it with any kind of firmware upgrade....if I want to make it 'region free' that's simple and a totally different issue | drcspy (146) | ||

Plus unlike mobo bios updates which are usually just for fixing issues the optical drive firmware updates the drives ability to work with new media. So, Broken (and a firmware update wont fix an optical drive anyway) or not my recomendation for everybody with a DVD writer is to update the firmware TODAY, right now, This second. |

| 501924 | 2006-11-26 11:36:00 | hmmmmm...somehow I cant quite imagine a manufacturers firmware upgrade, (flash), would set the device to be region free ? | drcspy (146) | ||
| 501925 | 2006-11-26 20:42:00 | The manufacturers won't provide a region free firmware, but as posted earlier, you can get semi-legal modified ones that work just fine. I have upgraded the firmware on all 3 of my DVD drives and life is good in region-free-land :) |
