501550 2006-12-06 11:29:00 Word docs are a big pain.If the recipient does not have word then they will not open.My daughter gets several and sends them on to me so I can open them in Open Office then send them back to her.Are you sure you want to send them as word ?
If someone has something to send why they don't just use HTML which everyone can view or PDF then we might all be able to get away from the MS Office upgrade cycle. Bring on the ODF.

I have Word 2003. If I want to send a document I save it as *.rtf which most text editors can use. I only send a *.doc file if I know for certain the recipient has Word.

Almost everyone can read *.pdf.

I guess it depends on what you want the recipient to do with the document when they receive it.

If for editing, then the person needs a PDF Writer some of which are free.

Horses for courses.

Not really all that different to all the graphic or compression formats around.

501552 2006-12-08 00:49:00 Getting off the original point here...my problem is not with the receiver being able to open Word documents (which they can) but that I cannot send a Word 2003 document as an attachment via Thunderbird.

I don't really want to switch to Outlook or revert to Word 2002 (which did work this way).

So, now.... any ideas or suggestions/solutions would be very much appreciated. :help:
