501809 2006-11-24 20:37:00 Got an old PC Direct machine and the screen jitters and tries to display 2,3 or4 images of the same screen at the same time. Usually it will run for 'bout half-an-hour before it starts the jitters. I know the solution is at Dell.com.nz but it's an occasional use machine by an older couple just for emails. A hefty thump with an open hand on the top of the screen did not work:help: pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

501810 2006-11-24 20:58:00 It is losing its synchronisation detection.

Probably (almost certainly) an electronic component failing.

Repir costs would exceed the cost of a replacement (second hand) monitor by a factor of 10+ probably.

501811 2006-11-25 04:44:00 Have a look on the back of the monitor (or on any front panel control area) for a vertical hold control. If it has one there will be a adjuster shaft sticking out, and the symbol is a screen with a vertical line that has arrow heads at both ends.

Some times these controls are set too close to their lock threshold, and as the machine warms up it starts rolling.

You could get lucky.

Cheers
