| 501698 | 2006-11-24 02:02:00 | I have been advised that I should simply install a new 1 GB RAM (PC3200) along side my existing 2 x 256 MB (PC2700?). I thought it would be best to have 2 x 1 GB RAM modules (i.e. install RAM in Pairs - old school), but the shop convinced me that I don't need to do this as 1.5 GB in total will be enough. NOTE: I have a Gigbyte GA7-VT600 (www.gigabyte.com.tw) motherboard Should work, right ? |

| 501699 | 2006-11-24 02:09:00 | Should work ok, altho if the mobo supports dual channel ram, it wont be running in dual channel mode, if u put the 1 GB in. But it doesnt look like it supports dual channel anyway, as its only got 3 slots. Newer mobos dont have have to be paired in order to work. some older mobos did . |

| 501702 | 2006-11-24 15:03:00 | the modern ram has a data 'width' of 64bits (dimm, dual in line memory module).........so does the system 'bus' so you dont need pairs.......in the 'old school' the simm ram (single in line memory module) had a 32bit data width so you needed two sticks, not necessarily of matched size, in order for it to total 64bit and communicate with the data bus......it was NEVER necessary to have two sticks of the same 'size' ....... | drcspy (146) | ||
