502732 2006-11-28 06:51:00 Very recently I have noticed that a number of programs, such as my antivirus program has vanished from my lower right hand task bar. I have right clicked on an empty section of the lower task bar and accessed "programs/task bar/customize" and found "Current Itemsitems currently in the Task Bar, and Past Items a lot of the items, including my antivirus program. I have tried to drag and drop these past items into the current items, and even marked some of the "Past Items" as "Always Show", to no avail, they do not return to the task bar. How do I recover these items?

I have done a Virus check and found three viruses, which I have promptly delt, so suspect that my virus checked has been disconnected from my internet browser. I am pretty upset as I normally run a clean machine (until now!) Urgent help would be appreciated.

Start - Run - MSCONFIG.

Tick your AV and anything else you want back in the startup.

502737 2006-11-29 07:05:00 Seeing as you have already discovered viruses on your computer which can do things as deactivate your security applications, it would pay to scan your computer using another program. Both of these offer free online scans - McAfee (us.mcafee.com) and Trend Housecall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/).

Once you have the all clear then there is a list of things you can try to solve your missing systray icons. See here (www.tech-pro.net).

Let us know how you get on. :)

502738 2006-11-30 07:32:00 Thanks Jen
Tried McAfee - was snobbish as it would only work on Outlook - I use Firefox.
Tried Trend Housecall - apparently going to take 4 hours to check out 16 GB of data.

The "Startup Guru" and "Startup Organiser" want a pile of cash before you may get a solution out of them LOL

Instead I have contacted the so called source of this pain ie Microsoft, to see what the "horses mouth" says about this problem. Will let you all know if they have an answer.

Perhaps there may be others who have a solution which will not lighten my bank balance. Genuinely thank you "Jen" for your suggestions, and may in the end have to fork out the brass (cash)!
