502120 2006-11-25 23:36:00 Hullo to you all . This morning I got my husband (who is a qualified/experienced tech - has a NZCE in electronics etc) but who has more theoretical knowledge about computers to attempt to install some more RAM . I am the user and software fiddler!

I have a 'home built' PC - mostly put together by our son (who doesn't live locally) . A long story, but when I turned the PC on again after installation there was a 1 second interval beeping, with nothing coming up on the screen . :badpc: After looking at the installation again, himself took the new RAM out - and all goes well again .

Some relevant details:

OS - Windows XP professional

The motherboard is - Gigabyte GA-K8VT800 motherboard, Socket 754, Athlon64, VIA K8T800 Chipset, 3xDIMM, DDR, 8XAGP, 5xPC

Previous RAM are - Transcend 512MB, DDR-SDRAM, DIMM, DDR400 (Samsung) & Transcend 512MB, DDR-SDRAM, DIMM, DDR400 (Samsung) .

New Ram is - Transcend 1GB, DDR-SDRAM, DIMM, DDR400, Samsung .

My understanding is that there are 3 slots, and the motherboard will take a maximum of 2Gb of RAM .

Ian said when he put the new RAM in, it was hard to get it fully in place with the 'little catches' in place . . . But he felt it had been properly installed .

Some suggestions would be most appreciated, and as always, TIA .

502121 2006-11-26 00:47:00 got to make sure the 'notch' lines up with the corresponding thingy in the ram slot.......they do take a 'bit' of force to 'clip' in also........ drcspy (146)
502122 2006-11-26 00:49:00 if the puter makes the same beep when the ram is removed so theres none in it then it probalby means either the ram is stuffed or it wasn't clipped in correctly....... drcspy (146)
502123 2006-11-26 01:30:00 Just reporting back. After a certain amount of marital disharmony, some swopping of Ram modules, and a bit of 'gentle persuasion' - all is well, and himself has gone off for a bit of relaxing fishing....

I think I'll collapse in the corner for a while to recover!

Thanks for your support - it's appreciated. :)

He didn't have it seated correctly .

Takes more than a degree in electronics huh?
