502444 2006-11-29 01:59:00 I also have the static problem, apparently generated by my own body..:waughh:

Does that make you a natural "chick magnet" (or chick electromagnet) PJ?

502446 2006-11-29 13:11:00 I agree with PJ
For a semi-permanent cure, get some anti-static spray for carpets and spray the areas around your workstation. I have some experience in this area, having had to resolve similar issues for a number of companies and organisations.

I have been searching for anti-static spray. Do you know where I can get some? A small quantity, for my chair.:)

502447 2006-11-29 18:47:00 I have been searching for anti-static spray . Do you know where I can get some? A small quantity, for my chair . :)Google (NZ only) is your friend, and you don't really need me or anybody else to search for you . You will have to treat more than your chair though, the floor will probably need treating, and you may also need an anti-static floor mat under your chair . There is no point in skimping, that's just a waste of time and money .

If it is just the shocks that bother you, and you are not worried about zapping your computer (unlikely unless you are working inside it) then simply discharge yourself through your elbow or the heel of your hand as I suggested in a previous post for shocks when exiting cars . There are fewer nerves there and you hardly feel it, but fingertips are far more sensitive .

Cheers

502448 2006-11-30 05:05:00 You forget who you are talking to Billy.:) I have been a member of this forum since 1999 and have, of course Googled for anti-static coatings/sprays in NZ.

ACL Staticide ESD Static Dissipative Clear Permanent Coating was the only result that looked likely, but the manufacturer -the only contact address- is in Melbourn. I have emailed them twice for a New Zealand outlet with no reply. That is why I was asking you, and/or the members of this forum.:)

502449 2006-11-30 05:50:00 www.rsnewzealand.com

Use the Find function and enter 155-8184, and the keyword as RS Stock number.

The direct link looks like a session ID so have not pasted it. 250mm spray bottle, available for immediate despatch, $16.20

This was the first one of the many links immediately discovered by using Google.

The product is Electrolube ASA, which has the properties:

"Anti-Static Spray is a very effective cleaner designed to eliminate dust and prevent the build up of static. Specially developed for use in areas where static build-up causes problems, e.g. computer rooms and offices, it is safe for use on plastic, metal, glass and synthetic surfaces.
Developed with a “no-stain” formulation, it is suitable for use on fabrics
of any colour.
Packaged in a pump spray bottle, Anti-Static Spray has been designed for use in workplaces where strict safety regulations prohibit the use of flammable solvents and aerosols, e.g. mines, oil-rigs, submarines and aircraft."

The direct link to the PDF sheet is here:

As the first Google hit delivered the goods, I did not bother with the rest.

Now, what was that again about forgetting ... ? :)

502450 2006-11-30 11:30:00 Thanks Godfather:)

You know how some wouldbe gardeners have a "brown thumb", well I seem to have something similar when it comes to research. I have never found anything I was looking for in the MS. knowledge base, even when I know it is there somewhere.
Then again, I may have made the search before I learned to edit the FireFox search engines to get Google NZ.

Thanks again.:)

502451 2006-11-30 12:03:00 the power cord to my computer is half out of the socket cause its one of those stupid ones taht you have to have the switch in ''off'' position or it doesnt let the plug in but i didnt know this and i just ramed a plug in and it ****ed up the power point..so now i can see the power metal thihngs from the 4 way adapter that is plugegd into it..one time my cat went behind there and pushed against it like cats do and it came out slightly, my computer turned off and when i turned it back on ntfs had been deleted LOL jesse_jax (9283)
502452 2006-11-30 12:43:00 My theory is that the Earth is disconnected from the plug socket outlet somewhere in the wall wiring and the monitor is still running in standby taking the case up to half EHT volts. ie the whole system is floating with a high resistance to Gnd and the monitor is not switching correctly into standby with no EHT. Does the whole system still do the same thing when moved to another location preferably another building. zqwerty (97)
