503468 2006-12-01 03:29:00 i very rarely use p2p, but when i do it is often slow and i am never sure if it is the p2p network or the isp causing it

Now it used to be that changing your p2p to a non standard one can help with speeds (I never bothered), is this still the case, or have the isps moved from port shaping to protocol shaping

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

503469 2006-12-01 03:47:00 Well it could be the ISP. If you're on broadband.

Or if u have XP SP2, SP2 lowered the ports from 50 to 10 or something.

503470 2006-12-01 04:43:00 You need to give a little more details than "p2p".

Are you talking Torrents or Limewire or DC++ etc.

If you are talking torrents are you talking public or private trackers.? Also what speeds do you get.

Good to see you not just assuming its your ISP BTW.

503471 2006-12-01 20:36:00 bittorrent @ 2-3kbps public tracker I guess Morgenmuffel (187)

Decent Public trackers will "generally" only give you 20-50KB/s due to everyone limiting there up speeds. What ISP and and plan?

Also what modem/router do you have and do you port forward?

503473 2006-12-01 22:54:00 I find i get rubbish speeds from public tracks best maybe 20kbs you should sign up to a private one like supertorrents or aradi tracker, I usually get 200kb+ on super torrents and a bit less than that on aradi. both are free btw. LOWTEC (7821)

Yea I 100% agree probably 7/10 people complaining about torrent speeds are using crap public trackers found with Google (and blame there ISP).

In this case 2-3K sounds like he "may" have another issue (or 2 issues ie crap public tracker and using GO Large).
