| 503222 | 2006-11-30 04:30:00 | I have two computers, a notebook and a desktop, both running XP Pro, which I have networked. The exercise has been only partly sucessful and I have run out of ideas as to why the network is not functioning fully as expected. The issue is that while the notebook can see the desktop fine, and can access the shared folders and printer, the desktop can only see the notebook if it (the notebook) has had no user log on since startup. If the notebook is waiting for a user to log then the desktop can see it and access the attached printer. Once a user logs on the desktop can no longer communicate with it. When I try to find the notebook from the desktop I get a message "The remote server is paused or is being started." Logging off the notebook user does not resptore the connection. The problem is not with the firewalls - turning them off has no effect. Each computer can ping the other at any time. File and print sharing has been enabled on both computers. The computers are networked via an ADSL wireless modem router. It does not matter if they are using wireless or cable links, the same problem occurs. Both computers can always access the Internet via the modem. If anyone has any ideas I would be very pleased to hear. |
